Let The Journey Begin

Hello World,

Since I’m going to be doing a lot in the coming months with regard to social media, I decided to start my own blog. My name is Jeff, I am 26 years old and I just started working for a startup company named Open Runway here in Boston, MA. Open Runway is online fashion retailer that will allow women to customize their own shoes and allow emerging designers an opportunity to have their designs put into production.

Being a man who can barely match a t-shirt to jeans, working in the world of women’s fashion is going to be a bit of a challenge. I literally just found out that a stiletto is a type of shoe and not something you would order at Starbucks. I’ve been learning a lot and I just started two weeks ago.

I went to a event put on by MassChallenge last week called “How to Build Buzz Around Your Brand” and it was quite informative. One of the speakers, Mike Troiano, said that “startup companies fail because the dog won’t eat the dog food.” I’m not quite sure what he meant by that but I remembered it and will probably use it in conversation somewhere down the line. He also said “Do what you love”, which made a little bit more sense to me. While I wouldn’t necessarily say that I love women’s shoes, I can say that I love working for a startup company and having the ability to make a difference. Sure beats having to wear a suit and sitting in a cubical all day crunching numbers, that stuffs for the birds.
